Monelisi coordinates and ensures the sending and receiving of all exhibition cargo happens seamlessly from door to stand. We spoke to Monelisi to go into detail about why he loves his job and the industry so much.
What do you love about working in the exhibition industry?
Monelisis: I never thought I would ever work in the shipping industry, let alone the exhibition industry, until EF-GSM SA introduced me to the industry last year. Now, I can’t see myself working in any other industry! I fell in love immediately with the diversity of the shows we work with every year, and meeting the exhibitors face to face after dealing with them on the phone to make their exhibition successful. I enjoy how the industry changes with every event or exhibition and how you always need to be on your toes for the unpredictable. There are so many opportunities to connect with people and make relationships to sell this beautiful country to the global community.
Why would you recommend a career in exhibition logistics?
Monelisi: It might not be a popular industry to go into, but it is definitely an important industry in our society and in the economy of our country. If you work in the exhibition industry, you’re automatically an ambassador for your country. Some of the exhibitors we work with have never been to South Africa before, and we become the source of information to them.
